It is especially
important for parents to teach their children about internet privacy at a young
age, that way as the children age they can make wise decisions about their own
privacy online.
Parents themselves
sometimes do not know about the risks associated with simply being online. This can
be due to the fact that they are simply not tech savvy, or they did not grow up in during age
of the internet.
A guide, provided here from the Direct Marketing Association, can help parents understand the rights their children have within the context of Online Behavioural Advertising (OBA) under The Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA). The guide was created by The Federal Trade Commission staff and the Direct Marketing Association.
The document includes the following information: who must comply, basic provisions, direct notice to parents, verifiable parental consent, access, timing, safe harbors, enforcement, and Title XII- Children's Online Privacy Protection.
